Activizing the Plaza

A banner reads:
"The Plaza is now open to all visitors."
Another banner states:
"Plaza membership self-registration is now enabled."
Of what use are these measures when visitors and newbies find nothing to interact with?
No member seems to be interested in keeping discussions going and starting new ones.
I have practically stopped logging in -- just stray in once in a while to see if something is stirring.
